BBL 2018-19: Sydney Thunder vs Melbourne Renegades – Report. Melbourne Renegades won the 38th match of the ongoing Big Bash League 2018-19 against Sydney Thunder by 12 runs. Thus, Renegades have retained the second place in the points table whereas Sydney Thunder takes the fourth place in the points table.

Watson could not continue his dream form going.

1st Innings:

Melbourne Renegades ploy of sending Cameron Boyce to open the innings didn’t pay dividends as he was dismissed on the second ball of the innings. However, Australia’s limited overs captain Aaron Finch was finally able to strike back form. The combative right-hander timed the ball with perfection as he scored 54 runs from 38 balls with the help of two fours and four sixes.

Cameron White scored a good knock of 40 runs from 29 balls to keep up the momentum provided by Finch. However, the Renegades lower order failed to add the finishing touches to the innings as they lost wickets in a cluster. On the other hand, Daniel Sams and Gurinder Sandhu bagged three wickets and bowled economical spells.

2nd Innings:

Sydney Thunder got off to a bad start as they lost both their openers in a jiffy. The in-form captain Shane Watson was dismissed after scoring only one run. Furthermore, Anton Devcich was dismissed without troubling the scorers.

However, Callum Ferguson and Jason Sangha added a partnership of 54 runs to keep Thunder in the game. Both the players scored their respective fifties with Callum Ferguson playing the aggressor role.

However, Chris Green and Daniel Sams were dismissed at the crucial stage and Thunder fell short by 12 runs. Jay Lenton scored 20 runs from 15 balls but it was not enough to take the hosts over the line.
