Nasir Hossain to Undergo Knee Surgery

Bangladesh star cricketer Nasir Hossain is all set to go under the knife after tearing his right knee ligament.

Reportedly, the allrounder allegedly suffered the injury while playing football. As a result, he is likely to be sidelined for around six months. However, Hossain termed the allegation that he picked the injury while playing soccer.

Debashish Chowdhury, Bangladesh Cricket Board’s chief physician, confirmed the injury news and said that the player would need an operation. He also confirmed the period Hossain would remain on the sidelines for.

“Primary assessment showed that he has a badly injured ligament on his right knee. To know more we had sent him for an MRI [April 10] and it shows he had torn his ligaments and will require an operation,” Chowdhury said.

The injury, meanwhile, has come as a setback for Hossain. He had a good chance of making it to the national team by putting up some good performances in the upcoming home series between Bangladesh ‘A’ and Sri Lanka.

“We are yet to decide whether it will be completed at home or abroad. But as it stands, he will certainly be out of cricket for the next six months,” he added.

Meanwhile, the injury has caused quite a stir in the Bangladeshi cricketing circle. With no cricket being played at the moment, Hossain’s injury has surprised many.

“Every cricketer should have a clear knowledge regarding his priorities,” national selector Habibul Bashar said.

“Certainly it will make him pay as he will surely lose few opportunities that seemed to be lying ahead for him to grab,” he added.

Hossain is also disappointed with the unfortunate turn of events and making it to the news for all the wrong reasons. He also played down rumours that the injury was sustained while playing football.

“It is quite disappointing to see what is happening with me,”  he told Cricbuzz.

“I had twisted my knee while running during a personal visit outside Dhaka but there is no truth whatsoever regarding the allegation that it was sustained while playing football,” he added.

Seen as a bright prospect in his younger days, Nasir Hossain has fallen down the pecking order in recent times.

“I did not anticipate that my injury will be projected in this manner by the media and it is simply hurtful, to say the least,” he concluded.

His last Test appearance came during the home series against Australia last year. On the other hand, he has not played a T20I since the World T20 in 2016.
