BCCI Has To Pay $70 Million If They Failed MoU Agreement: Najam Sethi

Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Executive Committee head Najam Sethi on Sunday has revealed the national board would not file legal suit immediately against India while adding the board is in talks with its counterpart Board of Control for Cricket in India.

India and Pakistan matches are being witnessed by their respective fans with great enthusiasm who’re mostly relying on the ICC’s global events.

“If they agree to play us then that is great, otherwise we will be taking action against them. They will have to pay us to the tune of $70 million for the first home and away series,” Sethi was quoted as saying by The Express Tribune.

As the fans have been deprived of entertaining cricket between the two neighbouring countries owing to political escalations from time-to-time, both the boards have so far met each other twice before world cricket governing body ICC will also attend the meeting alongside it’s two Full Members.

“We have had two meetings with the BCCI. We will have a third meeting in which the International Cricket Council (ICC) will be involved,” Sethi said.

As both the boards expressed to keep the bilateral ties alive, BCCI has revealed it’s yet to get a signal from its government earlier.

Earlier, PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan has decided to take action against BCCI, after the board felt BCCI didn’t follow the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which was based on the bilateral ties between both the countries.

Moreover, Sethi is bound to succeed his predecessor Shaharyar Khan in August as PCB’s chairman after it was made clear in the PCB’s Annual General Meeting in Lahore earlier this week.

“We have discussed this with some of the leading legal minds around, both in Pakistan and abroad, and all of them agree we are in a position to take legal action against the BCCI if they do not play us in a series hosted by us,” Sethi maintained.

However, the void between the two boards has been left by MoU controversy and lack of bilateral series in the recent past as Sethi urges BCCI to compensate if they didn’t stand on their agreement.

Sethi further revealed they opposed the Big Three formula, in order to bring stability and give fair chance to other boards as well.

Interestingly, as the development has taken place, both the arch-rivals are scheduled to play each other at Edgbaston in Birmingham on June 4 which is further expected to be a cracker of a contest between both the teams.
