BCCI shifts the third ODI from October 19th to 20th due to “Karva Chauth”

The BCCI on Thursday decided to shift the third ODI between India and New Zealand from October 19 to 20th due to “Karva Chauth” festival. Senior BCCI and DDCA vice-president CK Khanna confirmed the development that BCCI  has agreed to their request.

“We are thankful to BCCI for accepting our request of shifting the date by a day. I have received a letter of acknowledgement for the same from the back office,”

Khanna told PTI on Thursday.

In fact, DDCA had written a letter to BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke intimating the board about the practical difficulties of organizing the match on the day of a festival prevalent in North India. The ticket sales would have taken a hit.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s Feroze Shah Kotla is all to host the opening warm-up  match of New Zealand’s tour of India when the visitors take on Board President’s XI from September 16-18. Interestingly, the BCCI had sounded out Kotla whether it wanted to host the Duleep trophy day/night “pink ball” game from August  23.

“Yes, Kotla was offered the Duleep Trophy Pink ball game but the DDCA feels that due to ongoing monsoons, it will be difficult to get the ground ready on time for the match. That’s why UPCA’s new ground at Greater Noida, which has floodlights will host the Duleep Trophy Day-Night game on August 23,”

a senior BCCI source told PTI on Thursday.

The Greater Noida ground hosted the Afghanistan team practice before the ICC World T20. The DDCA, however, will host the New Zealand warm up the game because it is also closer to the venue of the first Test which will be held in Kanpur from September 22-26.

Here is the changed schedule of India’s home series against New Zealand

1st Test Green Park Stadium, Kanpur September  22-26
2nd Test Eden Gardens , Kolkata September  30- October 4
3rd Test Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore October, 8-12
