Ben Dunk, the Australian southpaw went out all guns blazing when he struck a double century (229*) against Queensland. He soon got a reward for it too as he got selected for the T20I side. Along with Ben Dunk; Cameron White and Nathan Reardon are drafted into Australia’s T20 side which will take on South Africa next month.
David Warner, Mitchell Johnson and Glenn Maxwell are unavailable for selection due to Test series against Pakistan in UAE and series proximity. So the selectors opted to select players who are in form in the current ongoing Matador Cup.
Ben Dunk displayed his talent with the bat scoring 229* while Cameron White and Nathan Reardon showed some balanced hitting at crucial times. Moreover, Ben Dunk is selected as a wicket keeper batsman, which means there is no place for Matthew Wade or Tim Paine in the side. Dunk’s average performance in the CLT20 pushed him for the selection.
On the other hand, Shane Watson will be returning after his ankle and calf injury. Australia even named Trevor Bayliss as the interim coach till the time Darren Lehmann comes back from UAE. The T20 squad will assemble on November 1.
Australia T20 squad: Aaron Finch (captain), Sean Abott, Camron Boyce, Patrick Cummins, Ben Cutting, Ben Dunk (wk), James Faulker (chosen subject to Pakistan test series selection), Nic Maddinson, Nathan Reardon, Shane Watson, Cameron White.
