Sachin Tendulkar believes Ben Stokes would effectively lead the England team in the first Test against West Indies at Southampton. The legendary cricketer has said that Stokes’ balanced emotion will benefit his side in the much-awaited Test match.

Ben Stokes has been given the captaincy for the first Test as the regular Test captain Joe Root will be unavailable because he is expecting his first childbirth during that time. After meeting his family at the hospital, Root will have to follow seven days quarantine period according to England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

While talking to Brian Lara on the online platform ‘100mb’, the little master expressed that Ben Stokes has the attitude which anyone wants to become a captain.

He aggressive when he needs to be while also defensive when his team wants, according to Sachin Tendulkar this quality of the allrounder makes him the strong contender of becoming the captain.

“He is someone who is going to lead from the front, we have seen that on a number of occasions. He is aggressive, positive and when he has to be slightly defensive he is prepared to do that for the team,” Sachin Tendulkar said.

“I always feel controlled aggression produces results and so far whatever I have seen, the aggression has been there but it is controlled. So, this is what I think of Ben Stokes,” he added.

Interestingly, Ben Stokes has never captained in the first-class cricket. It will be his first Test series as a captain. He has served only as of the deputy of Joe Root in Tests. 

Meanwhile, the toss has been delayed for the first Test match between England and West Indies due to light rain.
