Ben Stokes who has not been a popular name in the world of cricket has taken the stage by fire helping England secure a test victory at the Lords against the Black caps by 124 runs in the first test.
Stokes who has now become an important player for the team has told that he has taken his inspiration from his mother who continued to play cricket even when she was pregnant with him. Stokes’s mother Deborah Stokes was a respectable cricket player for the New Zealand team before 1991 when Stokes was born.
His dad Ged was also a professional Rugby player. He also represented the New Zealand national team in Rugby. This history of sports in the family made sure that Stoke would end up being a professional sports person representing his nation overseas.
The Mirror reported that Ged, Stokes’s father was excited by his son’s match winning performance. Ged also added that they had to stay up late in the night to watch the matches because of the time differences and that it did not stop them from following the sport.
Ged showed how happy and proud he was seeing his son achieve what he has for his national team. He also explained that Deborah, his wife was a very good cricketer and that she was playing the game even after she was pregnant with Stokes. He also said that his wife was one of the main reasons for Stokes to become an all-rounder.
