Big Bash League 2018-19: Adelaide Strikers vs Sydney Thunder – Report. Adelaide Strikers won the 14th match of the ongoing Big Bash League 2018-19 against Sydney Thunder by 20 runs. Strikers now have won two matches whereas they have lost as many in the ongoing season to claim the third position in the points table. Adelaide captain Colin Ingram won the toss and decided to bat first.
The hosts got off to a steady start with Alex Carey and Jake Weatherald adding 33 runs for the opening stand. However, Weatherald could not continue as he was caught and bowled by Jonathan Cook. Subsequently, Strikers skipper Colin Ingram and wicketkeeper Alex Carey added a fine alliance of 75 runs.
Carey who had scored a fine 70 in the first match of the season, continued his good form as he scored another good knock of 59 runs from just 40 balls. The southpaw batsman scored nine fours and one maximum in his knock.
Meanwhile, Colin Ingram was able to hit the ground running. The left-hander scored his runs at a fluent speed as he blasted a 43-ball 75. The Proteas experienced batsman scored three fours and half-a-dozen sixes in his knock.
However, Adelaide Strikers could not apply the finishing touches to their innings as they scored only 20 runs in the last three overs. On the other hand, Daniel Sams scalped two wickets and conceded only 24 runs in his four overs quota.
Meanwhile, Sydney Thunder got off to a solid start with Jos Buttler and Shane Watson adding 39 runs for the opening stand. However, the visitors could not accelerate in the middle of the innings as they kept losing wickets.
Australia’s experienced fast bowler Peter Siddle came with a match-winning bowling performance. Siddle scalped three wickets which included crucial wickets like Jos Buttler, Joe Root and Callum Ferguson – who scored 47 runs from 39 balls. The veteran pacer gave away only 20 runs in his allotted overs and was adjudged the Man of the match. In fact, Rashid Khan who lost his father yesterday took two wickets and conceded 34 runs.
