Jan 18, 2019 at 8:06 PM
It was an incredible game of cricket at Perth in the 34th game of the Big Bash League 2018-19. Hobart Hurricanes chased a mammoth tally against the best bowling attack of Perth Scorchers to seal the victory and bag those two crucial points. It was George Bailey, who was the star performer for Hobart Hurricanes on Friday.
1st Innings:
Initially, it was Hobart Hurricanes, who won the toss and asked the home side to bat first. Unfortunately, their in-form batsman Cameron Bancroft and Michael Klinger walked back for a duck to their name, courtesy James Faulkner.
Faulkner got two wickets in the first over of the innings to dent them dearly. Adding further vows, their performer of the season Ashton Turner also walked back for 2 runs in his account to make scorecard read 7/3.
However, Sam Whiteman and Hilton Cartwright added 77 runs for the third wicket to balance the ship. Whiteman was brilliant at the crease, who smashed the ball beautifully. Meanwhile, Cartwright was so focussed on giving the strike back.
Just when things looked pretty bleak with the low total on the board, Nathan Coulter-Nile smashed 31 off 15 balls to boost the total. He was well accompanied by Andrew Tye, who scored 25 off 12 to put 177 runs on the board.
Faulkner finished with three wickets while Moddy and Riley bagged a couple of wickets each. D’Arcy Short also chipped in with a wicket to his name.
2nd Innings:
In reply, Hobart Hurricanes also lost quick wickets with Wade and Short walking back for poor scores. Jewell and McDormett got the starts but unfortunately, couldn’t capitalise on it to play a successful knock for their franchise.
Then came the experienced George Bailey, who displayed a class of his own. He kept Perth bowlers chasing the leather more often than not to score 69 off just 39 deliveries. Though he lost his wicket at the end, it was James Faulkner with the bat, who finished the task.
Andrew Tye and Aaron Hardie picked up a couple of wickets while Usman Qadir and Nathan Coulter-Nile picked up one wicket each. George Bailey was handed a man of the match award for his stunning knock.
Brief Scores:
Perth Scorchers – 177/9 (Sam Whiteman 68, Faulkner 3/36, Riley 2/19)
Hobart Hurricanes – 178/6 (George Bailey 69, Aaron Hardie 2/25)
