Melbourne Renegades cruised to a comfortable win of seven wickets against Sydney Sixers in the 32nd match of the ongoing Big Bash League 2018-19. In fact, Renegades still had seven overs left in the bag when their all-rounder Mohammed Nabi smashed a six on the last ball of the 13th over. Meanwhile, Renegades captain Tom Cooper won the toss and decided to bowl first.
Subsequently, Melbourne Renegades have moved to the second place in the points table after winning their fifth match of the ongoing season. However, Sydney Sixers have slipped to the fifth position in the points table after winning four matches out of the nine they have played.
It wasn’t the easiest pitch to bat on as there wasn’t consistent bounce in the pitch. Kane Richardson struck in the second over of the innings when he got the better of Daniel Hughes. Hughes could not even trouble the scorers after facing seven balls.
Sydney Sixers could not get themselves on the right path as they kept losing wickets at regular wickets. Sixers were tottering at 51-5 and it was always going to be a tough job for them to get back into the contest.
However, Tom Curran got his team to a respectable total of 115 runs. Curran scored a brisk knock of 44 runs off just 29 balls to give a ray of hope to the hosts. On the other hand, Kane Richardson was the pick of the Melbourne bowlers. The fast bowlers scalped three wickets and gave away only 26 runs in his four overs quota.
Furthermore, Mohammed Nabi also bowled with fire. Nabi scalped four wickets and bowled with accuracy. Moreover, he conceded only 25 runs in the allotted four overs.
The visitors got off to a good with their openers Marcus Harris and Tom Cooper adding 37 runs for the first wicket stand. Subsequently, Marcus Harris who impressed in the Test series against India was sent back by Sean Abbott. However, Cooper and Sam Harper added 54 runs for the second wicket stand to get their team in close proximity to the target.
However, Melbourne Renegades captain Tom Cooper was unlucky to miss out on his fifty as he was dismissed on 49 runs. Cooper batted at the top of his game and scored eight fours and one six in his knock. Cameron White gave the finishing touches as the right-hander scored 16 runs from only six balls. However, Steve O’Keefe scalped two wickets and gave away 23 runs in three overs.
Kane Richardson was awarded the Man of the match for picking up three wickets in the first innings.
