Bangladesh Premier League outfit Sylhet Sixers have lodged an official complaint with league’s governing council after their bowler Kamrul Islam Rabbi was made to bowl seven balls while defending 174 against Rangpur Riders in Chittagong on Tuesday (November 28). The game also ended on a disappointing note for the Sixers as the Riders chased down the total with just two balls remaining in the thrilling contest.

The controversial incident took place in the 17th over when Rabbi had bowled all the six balls and went to umpire Mahfuzur Rahman to take his cap. However, the on-field umpire bizarrely checked with third umpire Gazi Sohel who stated that the bowler was yet to deliver the final ball of the over. Due to that, Ravi Bopara took a single off the extra ball and went on to retain the strike. However, it did not prove to be costly as Bopara was run out just a couple of balls later.
“Rabbi bowled an extra ball in the 17th (16th) over,” Sixers’ left-arm spinner Nabil Samad was quoted as saying by Bangladeshi outlet Daily Star. “Rabbi reminded the umpire of the number of balls before bowling the extra delivery, but that did not change anything. I don’t know if the umpire checked with the third umpire at the time; I was not at the scene at the time.”
Confirming that the complaint has been lodged, team’s media manager Tamzidul Islam said:
“We have lodged a complaint. Our captain pointed out the error during the match on the field. The third umpire cross-checked and told us to lodge a written complaint.”
Sixers’ season gone from bad to worse:
Meanwhile, the Sixers are all but of contention for a place in knockout stage after suffering their sixth defeat this season. They began the season on a strong note, winning the first three games but things have gone only downhill from after that. They have lost six of their last seven games while one was abandoned due to rain.
