BPL 2019: Watch – Andre Russell Bags His Maiden Bangladesh Premier League Hat-Trick

Windies entertaining all-rounder Andre Russell has achieved a rare milestone while representing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchise Dhaka Dynamites. In the 37th match of the sixth edition of the BPL, Russell has clinched his maiden hat-trick of Bangladesh’s professional domestic league. With this, this BPL season has witnessed, as many as three hat-tricks including Wahab Riaz and the 22-year-old off-spinner Aliss Islam.

Since 2012, it is a fifth overall hat-trick in the competition. Pakistan’s speedster Mohammad Sami was the first to clinch hat-trick in the BPL history while representing Duronton Rajshahi against Dhaka Gladiators.

So far, Russell has bagged two hat-tricks in Tweny20 cricket.

In 2018, Jamaica Tallawahs‘ Russell claimed the feat while taking on Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

The medium-pacer Russell was bowling the final over of the first innings—to pick three wickets on first three deliveries of the 20th over. He got rid of wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim, before dismissing Cameron Delport and Dasun Shanaka on the consecutive deliveries.

While taking pace off the ball, Russell bowled a full toss to Rahim, who couldn’t make most of the opportunity, as Shuvagata Hom took an easy catch at the long-on region.

He followed it with Delport’s wicket by opting for a length delivery. The Viking’s batsman couldn’t get much of his blade on the ball, as Shugvagta again did the rest at the same position.

The hat-trick wicket came in the form of Shanaka, who picked the fielder Mizanur Rahman at short fine leg. Shanaka tried to play the paddle sweep, but couldn’t keep the ball out of fielder’s reach. Rahman ended up claiming a brilliant catch.

Earlier, Batting first, Rahim-led Vikings posted 174 for five on the board in 20 allotted overs.

Delport was the top scorer for the Vikings with 57-ball 71. His knock included five fours and four sixes. Rahim smashed 24-ball 43 as his quickfire cameo was comprised of four fours and two maximums.

Russell’s bowling figures read three for 38 in four overs. He also recorded 39 off just 23 deliveries while chasing the target of 175.

However, despite commendable efforts from Russell, his all-round show went in vain as Vikings won the game by 11 runs.

The other notable performance came from the Dynamites’ skipper Shakib Al Hasan. He scored 42-ball 53 as wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan added 33 off 23 balls. For Vikings, Abu Zayed starred with the ball by picking three wickets while giving away 25 runs in four overs.
