Brian Lara offers to pay fine for Wahab Riaz

West Indies batting legend Brian Charles Lara was of full praise for the Pakistani pace bowler Wahab Riaz for his excellent spell in the 3rd quarter final match against the co-hosts Australia in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup tournament of 2015 at the Adelaide, Oval stadium in Australia.

Lara was so moved by the fiery spell of the Pakistani fast bowler that he even offered to pay the fine imposed on Wahab Riaz by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The mighty Australians were provided an easy target of 214 runs and Australia were in a spot of real worry at one point of the match when they got struck at just 84 runs for the loss of three wickets of openers David Warner and Aaron Finch and Michael Clarke, and also after which Shane Watson was dropped at a score of just 4 runs by the fielder Rahat Ali in the deep off position in the bowling spell of Riaz, which later turned out to be the turning point of the match.

There were a few on-field altercations in the match between Shane Watson and Riaz for which they were fined fifteen percent and fifty percent of the match fee respectively. Brian Lara took to social media platform Twitter to appreciate Wahab Riaz’s awesome and fiery spell and said it was a sheer joy to watch him bowl. He did not restrain from even jokingly saying that he would pay the fine imposed on Riaz out of his own pocket.

Australia beat Pakistan by six wickets and booked their place in the semi-final the other day, in which they will be playing against the mighty India at Sydney Cricket Ground stadium, Australia on March 26th. Watson and Steven Smith both scored half centuries each to help their side beat Pakistan in the 3rd quarter final. Australia has never lost a World Cup semi final, but will face an Indian side full of confidence after their dominating win against the minnow Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter-final match.
