England Cricket team lost the first Test match by 75 runs at Lord’s. It was a poor performance by England team who played good cricket but could not make use of chances they were presented and failed, primarily in batting department. The batting let them down with poor strokes and giving the Pakistan team a seizable lead in the first innings. Despite Chris Woakes’ brilliant spell, the England batsmen were not up to the mark.
In the first innings, Cook was the only batsmen who scored 81 while in the second innings James Vince, Ballance, and Bairstow scored 40’s but could not prevent England’s loss. Joe Root, England’s most reliable batsmen did not contribute which led to their downfall. England batsmen were not able to read the deliveries which made life tough.
With the second Test match of the series starting from tomorrow at Old Trafford, Manchester, England have called up three players to their squad – James Anderson, Ben Stokes, and Adil Rashid made it to the squad. James Anderson is a guarantee for the second Test match replacing Finn. England team must play positive cricket and also handle the tough bowling of Pakistan as the likes Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Aamir, Rahat Ali and Yasir Shah will again make life difficult for them.
It will be a test of England’s character who must bat well in the first innings which would decide the fate of the Test match. If the conditions help swing bowling, James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Chris Woakes would be handy for the Pakistan batsmen.
England batting line-up had a poor Test match at Lord’s. All the top four batsmen need to be careful against a strong Pakistan bowling line up which can destroy any batting line up. Their most experienced, Root and Cook must come to the party and score big runs. Ben Stokes is also coming back in the squad, and if he comes in the playing XI; England will be a tough team to beat in their own conditions.
It will be interesting to see what type of conditions will be on offer in the second Test match at Old Trafford. England team must remain calm and use that extra motivation of that loss at Lord’s and come out with a positive mindset to level the series 1-1.
