Carlos Braithwaite has become an overnight sensation after his exploits in the final of the ICC World T20 against England. Braithwaite, often termed as the future of West Indies cricket has found admirers in all parts of the cricketing fraternity, and after a glorious World T20, he now will be a part of the cash-rich IPL.
Braithwaite was picked up by the Delhi Daredevils in the IPL player auctions, and his inclusion will definitely boost the Zaheer Khan led outfit. Hemant Dua, CEO of the Daredevils also said that Braithwaite had the ability to attract a lot of fans and get them into the stadium rooting for him.
“Any kind of performance by a cricketer, who plays for your franchise, helps to bring in the confidence back. What he did was not easy to do under pressure on a platform like a World Cup final. Such a performance will definitely help the fans regain the lost. It’s good to bring those people back in the stadium,” Dua told news agencies.
Dua also went on to compare the team structure of the West Indies and Delhi Daredevils, picking out similarities between the two sides. The Daredevils CEO said that like West Indies, the Daredevils didn’t just rely on one individual to win them the games, but their entire team was full of match winners. He pointed out individuals like Pavan Negi, Chris Morris and Braithwaite, who could be some of the potential match winners for the Daredevils.
“If we look at the West Indies side, there was not a single match-winner. There was a Chris Gayle, a Lendl Simmons, a Marlon Samuels, everyone performed. That’s how we expect it in Delhi Daredevils. It was Brathwaite’s day and he performed. Similarly, there will be Negi, Chris Morris, Mayank Agarwal or a Shreyas Iyer performing for the team,” said Dua.
