Chennai Super Kings has denied a report which suggested that the franchise is looking to sign Dawid Malan as Suresh Raina’s replacement. They suffered a huge blow when their leading run-scorer Suresh Raina announced his exit from the camp citing personal reasons. The CSK vice-captain landed in Delhi soon after making the announcement. He did hint at making a comeback though if the COVID-19 situation improves, but still, there is no official word regarding it from the franchise.
Amidst this scenario, a report has suggested that Chennai Super Kings is looking to sign Dawid Malan as his replacement. The left-handed England batsman Dawid Malan has been in the form of his life in the shortest format of late and has also climbed to the top spot in the ICC T20I rankings. However, the franchise has quashed all such reports.
Chennai Super Kings Rubbishes Rumours Of Dawid Malan Replacing Suresh Raina As Their Foreign Quota Is Full
Speaking to ANI, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said that they are unable to sign any overseas player as their foreign quota is full. As per the rules, a team can have a maximum of eight foreign and 17 Indian players.
“This is news to me as well because our quota of foreign players is already full. So I don’t know how we can have another foreigner in the squad,” he said.
A maximum of 24 players is allowed in IPL 2020. CSK have Shane Watson. Lungi Ngidi, Imran Tahir, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Santner, Dwayne Bravo, Faf du Plessis, and Sam Curran in their ranks.
Dawid Malan has featured in 16 T20Is for England and already has 682 runs including 1 century and averaging a high 48.71. Besides he has also played 15 Tests and 1 ODI.
Chennai Super Kings’ Two Covid-19 Players To Start Training Again Only After Testing Negative
Further, Kasi Viswanathan also revealed that Deepak Chahar, one of their two players who had tested positive for the infection, will start training with Chennai Super Kings from Friday. He had recovered from COVID-19 a couple of days back but was yet to clear the fitness tests.
“Deepak has all the necessary clearance from the CSK and BCCI side and will start training from today,” he said.
