Chinese mobile maker Vivo is the new IPL sponsor
BCCI officially confirmed that Chinese mobile phone manufacturer, Vivo replaced Pepsi to grab the title sponsorship of the richest cricket league of the world IPL.
“The IPL title sponsorship right has been assigned to M/S Vivo mobiles. Vivo is to give the Bank Guarantee in next ten days”, BCCI said in its website.
Recently Pepsi, the Atlanta-based beverage giant, pulled out its association with BCCI due to a plethora of controversies that surrounded IPL, the brainchild of BCCI. 2013 spot-fixing incident that found-CSK Team Principal Gurunath Meiyappan and RR co-owner Raj Kundra- guilty of fixing particular moments of matches. The case resulted in another case of conflict of interest. Former BCCI president, whose India Cements company owned the Chennai Super Kings team. The Supreme Court appointed Lodha Committee asked Srinivasan to step down from the post in order to ensure a fair probe. And recommended Sunil Gavaskar’s name as the interim president.
Finally, Srinivasan was found guilty of conflict of interest. Recently BCCI unanimously decided not to let Srinivasan attend any BCCI meeting as the board suffered a lot of trust deficit because of his misdeeds.
Newly elected BCCI president Shashank Manohar promised to clean all the messes within two months.
But, all these mess irritated Pepsi, which is also the Pakistan national team sponsor, terminated their association with BCCI.
There was a buzz that the Indian Premier League has lost its brand value, but the boom of mobile phones companies and e-wallet ensure BCCI not to struggle further to find out a suitable sponsor.
When Pepsi withdraw their four-year contract with IPL many said it is the problem of Pepsi as their own brand is dipping. Meanwhile many said, IPL is no more a single sporting league in India to woo the Indian consumers. However, at the end of the day, everybody knows that if a company wants to embrace Indian customer cricket is the best medium to reach. Paytm, the e-wallet, which is popular to get the online marketing deal done, opted Indian cricket team has been getting a good response.
