The eagerly awaited CLT20 qualifiers began with a rain affected game between Southern Express and Northern Knights as the 10 over game was comfortably won by the Knights by 7 wickets.

After winning the crucial toss, Northern Knights happily chose to bowl first. Kusal Perera went over the Knights’ attack with the openers blessed with some lives almost 7 inside first 6 overs before they could catch one of Perera at end of 6th over who smoked a 20 ball 37. Gunathilaka who was looking tough to score runs burst out smashing 3 sixers in his 26 ball 39 knock. However, the death bowling of the knights was one to talk about as they restricted the Express team to 92 for 5 which looked a certain of 110.

With the track hitting some gripping, the Sri Lanka team began with spin which eventually back fired as Williamson and Devcich scored 40 in the mandatory power play setting up an easy win on cards. But a poor shot in next over seen the end of Devcich who scored 14. Flynn stood at crease for some time along with Williamson who was playing a blinder. Williamson innings of 27 balls ended on 52, the next ball of completing his fifty. With 7 needing off 8 balls after Williamson, the Northern Knights didn’t feel tough as they ended the game with 3 balls to spare.

Northern Knights: 96 for 3 in 9.3 overs (KS Williamson 52, AP Devcich 14; MF Maharoof 2/14, MDK Perera 1/11) beat Southern Knights: 92 for 5 in 10.0 overs (MD Gunathilaka 39, MDKJ 37; TA Boult 2/12, SB Styris 1/18) by 7 wickets
