Delhi Capitals made a total of eight purchases in IPL 2020 auction. West Indies’ batsman Shimron Hetmyer was the biggest gainer in this side as he bagged a deal world Rs 7.75 Crore. The left-handed batsman had warmed up well for the auction by scoring a century in the first ODI against India on Sunday and went for a big amount after the franchises earlier waited for others to bid first.
Marcus Stoinis, sold for Rs 4.80 Crore, was the second-biggest gainer. He had gone unsold in the first round once but fetched big money when his name was up for the second time.
Alex Carey, Jason Roy, Chris Woakes, Mohit Sharma, Tushar Deshpande and Lalit Yadav were the other players that DC signed during the auction.
They have also been bolstered with the arrival R Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane – Ashwin left Kings XI Punjab while Rajasthan Royals traded Rahane.
Shreyas Iyer has already been confirmed as the captain for the upcoming season and the youngster will hope to continue his success. Last year, Delhi Capitals brought an end to their seven-year drought and qualified for the Playoffs after seven seasons, under Iyer.
One of the five teams to have played the league right since its inception, Delhi are yet to win the IPL trophy. In fact, they haven’t played an IPL final even once. The team will hope to continue its form in the next season.
Likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Rahane, Iyer, Ashwin, Jason Roy, Ishant Sharma and others make Delhi Capitals one of the strongest contenders to win IPL 2020.
