Stuart Broad, the sidelined England fast bowler, is desperate to make a comeback in ODI squad for the 2019 World Cup which is to be played on his home soil in England. From past few time, the Test stalwart has been a sidelined commodity from the ODI cricket. He was immediately dropped from the white ball squad after the World Cup 0215 and made a comeback after a year in the ODI series against South Africa as a replacement of Liam Plunkett.
“I’m desperate, as I think every England cricketer would be, to play at the 2019 World Cup in England,” Broad, who has taken 178 wickets in 121 ODIs, told Sky Sports. “It is a long way away but it will creep up.
“The tricky part of playing a lot of test cricket, I’ve played 48 on the bounce now, is you don’t actually get a lot of time to play white-ball cricket so it’s quite hard to keep up with the standard in a game that moves forward so quickly.” said Broad.
Broad has also not been included the ODI series against Bangladesh, the selectors have included some new faces keeping the seniors at bay. The biggest irony in Broad’s career is that he, earlier this year, topped the ICC Test ranking but has been on the sidelines in limited overs format. Still, the experienced campaigner hopes to make a comeback in limited overs format and is eyeing a comeback till 2019 World Cup. “I’m trying to find more time to play white-ball cricket,” Broad added. “I’ve got a bit of a proven track record with the white ball, my stats are pretty good in the 50-over stuff, I just need to play a bit more of it.” adds hopeful Broad.
The England team is set to kick off their Bangladesh tour from Friday taking on the Bangladesh tigers in the first ODI of the three-match ODI series.
