Ever since India’s ouster from the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, the ‘Men in Blue’ has been dominating in all the series. The top-order of the India National Cricket Team was always one of the best and almost impenetrable for any bowler to get a breakthrough. Rohit Sharma, the opening batsman of India, is one of the top 5 cricketers who have scored the highest ODI runs in the calendar year 2019.
However, recently, the middle order and the lower order has also improved their game in the India team. In the recently concluded three-match ODI series against the visiting West Indies, Shreyas Iyer has put up a good fight at number four. In the meantime, the wicketkeeper-batsman, Rishabh Pant has also turned his wheels around and ticked off some good hits in the first two games of the series.
Other than India, West Indies cricketers are also giving the top performances in the limited-overs cricket. In their tour of India that ended with the 3rd ODI on 22nd December, Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer had put up a great game for the hosts. The two batsmen have nearly sailed the Windies’ ship by the shore.
Nevertheless, the year has come to an end and with this, here are the names of the top five cricketers to score most ODI runs this year.
Top 5 Cricketers with most ODI runs in 2019:
Babar Azam (PAK):
Pakistan cricket has always been known for their bowling figures rather than batting scores. However, the team is now trying to get their game together and register some big wins in international cricket.
Recently, Sri Lanka visited Pakistan for a three-match one-day series in early October. Although the first match was abandoned due to rain, the hosts defeated Sri Lanka in the next two games. Meanwhile, Babar Azam was awarded as the ‘Player of the Series’ for scoring a bristling century in the second match while his contribution of 31 runs helped Pakistan chase the target of 298 runs in the last ODI.
Nevertheless, Azam is the fifth cricketer among the top five highest run-scorers of 2019 in ODI cricket. He had bagged a total of 1092 runs from the 20 ODIs this year which consists of three centuries and six half-centuries.
