The second day match between Pakistan and Australia marked quite well and satisfactory for both the teams as in the second day also, the interested spectators of United Arab Emirates deemed into the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, and a not so mere matter of fact lies herein that both the days of the match marked their start with a ton of its own style and candidness. The batsmen who were present on the crease the last day made it look easy for the Pakistan side. Misbah-ul-Haq scored 69 runs from 182 deliveries and remained not out till the innings’ end (an 82.5 kph delivery caused the breakthrough that Australia had gambled for.
Misbah eyed a flighted ball on the middle and wanted to launch it over long-on again. This time though he hasn’t timed it, the face of the bat closed on impact and limited his power so much that it lands safely in the hands of Mitchell Johnson), while Asad Shafiq scored 89 runs off 151 balls (that was a top edge and O’Keefe has a maiden Test wicket, and Marsh gets his first Test catch as well). Pakistan’s wicket keeper cum batsman Sarfraz Ahmed scored the brilliant and vibrant ton of the day, making the scoreboard count to 109 runs against just 105 deliveries, with the help of 14 boundaries and a mighty strike rate of 103.80, a rare incident to perceive as far as test match batting is concerned. The tail-enders however failed miserably to show up anything concrete for their motherland. Yasir Shah scored just a couple of runs, where names like Rahat Ali and Imran Khan scored ducks and Zulfiqar Babar was sent back to the dressing room on getting severe injury.
Pakistan’s batting line up thus ended on 454 for the loss of 10 wickets. Both of the last day wicket takers, Mitchell Johnson and Peter Siddle remained wicket-less on the day. However O’Keefe and Lyon took a couple of wickets each while Smith took a wicket to mark his name among the wicket takers for the first innings. Team Australia also did manage to inaugurate their innings of the day and also managed to play for 31 overs by the help of the stable openers, Rogers and Warner, thereby scoring 113 runs, till the stumps were decided by the umpires to be left down and aside. None of the Pakistan bowlers had anything drawn up to their pockets as the Australians failed in revealing wickets.
