India is celebrating its 70th Independence Day today and cricketers took to Twitter to wish the whole nation on such a big occasion.

The India team, which is currently in the Caribbeans for a  four-match Test series, has clinched the series after defeating the hosts in the penultimate match  by 237 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead.The fourth and final match will be played at Port of Spain where India can move to the top of the Test rankings if they manage to defeat West Indies.

Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli led the congratulatory messages. In a video posted by the official Twitter handle of the BCCI, Kohli said: “Here’s wishing the people of India a happy Independence Day. Enjoy the day and the enjoy the freedom. Fly lots of kites but be safe.”

Indian vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane  said, “I wish all India citizens a happy Independence Day. I just want to ask everyone to support each other and help each other in moving forward.”


Wishing the whole country in Gujarati, Cheteshwar Pujara said: “Wishing the Indian citizens a happy Independence Day. My best wishes to everyone on the day.”


In his congratulatory message, wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha wished everyone to enjoy the occasion with their friends and families.
