South African fast bowler Dale Steyn, who is nursing his injury will join Hampshire for the upcoming 2018 County Championship.
Prominent speedster Steyn sustained an injury during the first Test of the three-match Test series against India. Since then, he has not played any cricket.
Meanwhile, the lightning-quick Steyn will join the side in June prior to South Africa’s tour of Sri Lanka.
Steyn will train with the Hampshire squad at the Ageas bowl in June before leaving for Sri Lanka.
However, Hampshire is aiming to have the 34-year-old return as their overseas player for the final weeks of the season once the Sri Lanka tour ends.
The Proteas fast bowlers will also replace his national teammate Hashim Amla for a One-day match against Somerset, and Championship match against Surrey in June.
Moreover, Steyn earlier played in England’s domestic cricket for Essex and Warwickshire.
Steyn relationship with injury has continued since 2015. In November 2015, he suffered a groin strain during the first Test against India in Mohali and missed the rest of the four-match series.
He returned in December to play against England but a shoulder injury cut short that summer. In the 2015-16 season, Steyn missed six of South Africa’s eight Tests and all their ODIs. He recovered for the World T20 but only played two of the four matches.
However, now with Morne Morkel bidding adieu to cricket, South Africa will need a fit and fierce Steyn back.
The Proteas recently made history in the recently concluded Test series against Australia. They became the first team to win a Test series against the Aussies at home since readmission.
In an illustrious career, Steyn has claimed 578 first-class wickets at an average of 23.29.
