Darren Lehmann Hits Back At Glenn Maxwell For Pink Ball Test Snub

A day after Glenn Maxwell criticised the policy of Matthew Wade, Victoria Bushrangers captain, to demote him in batting order in a Sheffield Shield game before the selection of Australia’s Test team for Day-Night Test vs South Africa, Darren Lehmann, the coach of Australia, lashed out at Maxwell highlighting his inconsistency with the bat in first-class cricket.
“No. Because he hasn’t made 100 for the last two years. You need to make 100, are you going to pick a bloke that hasn’t made 100 for two years?,” Lehmann said.
“We’re obviously disappointed but we’ll work through those issues, we’re confident they can work together.”
According to Maxwell, his demotion in batting order was the reason behind him failing to impress selectors as if he would’ve batted high up the order, he could have made it to the totally revamped squad for the pink ball Test.
Rob Quiney, a veteran of 93 first-class matches, also had a piece of advice for Maxwell, “I think he just needs to flip it and just make some runs,” Quinney told EON Sports radio on Friday.
“Victoria is flying at the moment, but he’s not setting the world on fire himself. He’s actually only batted at six twice so I don’t know where this has come from. It’s good that he’s honest, unfortunately, it’s probably not the greatest attitude to have I reckon,” he concluded.
Glenn Maxwell was dropped from Australia’s ODI squad after the Tri-series in West Indies but has been selected for the Chappell-Hadlee, starting from December 4.
