The Ashes 2018: David Warner Urges Matt Renshaw to Avoid Reading Newspapers

Swashbuckling Aussie opener David Warner has insisted his out of form opening partner Matt Renshaw to avoid reading newspapers this week and score some runs in the Sheffield Shield ahead of the eagerly anticipated Malegan Ashes schedule to start from 23rd November at the Gabba in Brisbane.
Renshaw has started his Test career on a good note, and in 10 matches so far he averages 36.64 which will only improve as his career progresses. He had a tough time for Queensland in their Sheild Campaign and failed to go past 20 runs in 4 innings. Neither the coach Darren Lehmann nor skipper Steven Smith has raised any doubts over his place in the Australian side but after a string of poor performance in the Shield matches the local media has raised a lot of questions leading up to the Gabba Test.
Warner despite being Renshaw’s opponent in the upcoming first-class encounter between Queensland and New South Wales wished the opener well and wanted him to score some runs.
“I want him to score runs this week. He’s been under a bit of pressure this week, there’s been a bit of talk in the media,” Warner was quoted by the local media on Sunday.
”You have to keep putting the numbers on the board. As a youngster I would be steering clear of newspapers this week.”
Renshaw will be a relieved man especially after New South Wales decided to rest their three speedsters Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins for the upcoming match. The trio was sensational during the previous round match against Western Australia.
Renshaw’s task has been made easy, with New South Wales resting their trio of test bowlers, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins, who were superb in defeating Western Australia in the previous round. Renshaw was in good touch during the home summer against South Arica and Pakistan, but ever since scoring 60 against India in Bengaluru, he has failed to get past a half-century in his next nine innings.
“I want him to do well. I am a mate of his and wish him success. He’s got to keep playing well. When I see that at the other end it brings a spark to my eye because you know your partner is on as well,” Warner said.
