DDCA Names Gate No 3 and 4 at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi After Anjum Chopra 1

In what comes as a pleasant surprise, Women’s cricket got it’s due as former Indian Women’s skipper Anjum Chopra was honoured after Gate No.3 and four at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi was named after her. The veteran women’s cricketer represented India in 127 ODI’s, 12 Tests and 18 T20I’s and have also represented the team in 6 World Cups. A few days ago it was Gate 2 which was dedicated to the “Nawab of Najafgarh” Virender Sehwag. As far as women’s cricket is concerned no gates have been named after any women’s cricketer.

The decision to honour the stylish left-handed batsman was taken by the Delhi and District Cricket Association as they named Gate No.3 and four after the former cricketer turned commentator.

“To recognize, encourage and reward the contribution that women deserve in our country and in her sports, a woman cricketer has been chosen too and it has been decided to name a gate in the name of Arjuna award winner and Padamshri awardee, Anjum Chopra,” a DDCA statement read.”Gates 3-4 will be now be renamed as Anjum Chopra Gate,” it added.

Besides this, the DDCA has also planned two names two stands after former Indian legendary spinner Bishen Singh Bedi and one of the architects of the 1983 World Cup win, Mohinder Amarnath. Justice Vikramjit who is the leader of the DDCA has also made a plan to hosts it’s first Annual Conclave on November 29. Bedi will be one of the key speakers there.

The DDCA comprises of some big names as the Honours Committee is led by Retired Justice Mukul Mudgal as the chairman and former commentators and reputed journalists like Narottam Puri, Ravi Chaturvedi, Neeru Bhatia and Vijay Lokapally.

Meanwhile, the 3rd and the final Test of the ongoing three-match Test series between India and Sri Lanka is scheduled to be played at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi starting from 2nd December. After an enthralling opening Test at the Eden Gardens which eventually ended in a draw due to bad weather conditions the drama moves to Nagpur for the 2nd Test which will begin from 24th November.
