Riding on Sheryas Iyer’s 40 ball 54 runs, Delhi Daredevils crushed Kings XI Punjab by 9 wickets at the Ferozshah Kotla Stadium, New Delhi just few moments ago. It was an excellent performance by Delhi Daredevils in all departments. With this win Delhi moved to fourth in the points table and Kings XI Punjab remained at the bottom of the table.
Chasing a modest total of 115 runs Sheryas Iyer and Mayank Aggarwal got off to flying start as both the openers scored fifties. Mayanak Aggarwal scored 52 off 40 balls and remained not out. Sheryas Iyer hit 54 and was the only man to get out. Delhi Daredevils won the match by 9 wickets with 37 balls to spare. The only Delhi wicket to fall was taken by Thakur for Punjab.
Delhi won the toss and elected to field. Punjab innings did not start well as they lost key batsmen Sehwag in the very first over itself for 2 runs only. They lost in quick succession 3 more wickets of Marsh, Manan Vohra and Wriddhman Saha to reach at one stage 16 for 4 after just 4 overs. After that Bailey and Miller tried to steady the innings but Bailey was adjudged LBW at the team score of 37. By end of 10 overs they were 45 for 6. Axar Patel and David Miller steadied the innings with a good partnership, taking singles and hitting boundaries. David Miller scored 42 runs and Axar Patel scored 22. Both of them got out in the 19th over pursuing quick runs. In the end Anureet Singh hit a six to help Punjab post a total of 118 for 8. Nathan Coulter Nile picked 4 wickets for 20 runs at an economy of 5 and Zaheer Khan picked up 2 wickets coming after a long break due to injury.
Delhi will face Rajasthan Royals in their next match on 3rd May whereas Punjab will face Mumbai Indians at Mohali on the same date. With this Punjab has to win the remaining matches to be in the competition that is going be very tough as they have won only 2 matches so far. A team which had performed well in 2014 has not been able to get a winning combination this time around so far. Players like Maxwell not getting an opportunity is a real enigma.
