Didn’t expect it to spin so much – MS Dhoni

As India completed yet another annihilating victory over Pakistan there was a trick which both the teams missed. It was the inclusion of a spinner, as the Eden Gardens pitch turned viciously and the Pakistani batsmen seemed all at sea against the spin of R. Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. But more than India, Pakistan missed the trick as the absence of Imad Wasim was a big blow to their chances.

Indian skipper MS Dhoni admitted that he didn’t expect the pitch to turn so much. “I didn’t expect it to spin so much. The spinners got plenty of help out there. It got slightly better in the second half and they had only one spinner. I think we can still do better playing against spin,” said Dhoni. The third seamer can give you a bit of help if there is dew around, but if I knew that there was so much turn on offer, then I don’t have a problem playing an extra spinner.

Speaking of India’s remaining games in the tournament, Dhoni said, “There are areas where we can still improve. It is important that you when you win games you address all those areas.” In this format, every team is a good team. We want to compete. We want to be here for the final, but as of now we want to take one game at a time.”

India now are scheduled to face Bangladesh on the 23rd of March in Bangalore. India’s last match in the Super 10 stage is against Australia at Mohali on the 27th.
