Dinesh Karthik Confident Of Making Comeback For Team India

Dinesh Karthik might be out of the Indian team set up now, but he had recently showcased his mettle in the domestic tournament where he scored 418 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at an average of 59.71. He also performed well in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament where he scored 301 runs.

Coming to bat at No.5 or 6, Dinesh Karthik took the onus and delivered the goods when it mattered the most. Dinesh Karthik enjoys batting down the order, and finisher’s role is something which he relishes. The Indian selectors have snubbed India’s experienced wicket-keeper batsman after he scored just 14 runs in 2 innings at the ICC ODI World Cup tournament July.

Karthik might be out of the cricket set up for now, but he expressed that he is looking forward to taking the finisher’s role back when he makes a comeback into the limited-overs side. With T20 World Cup tournament initially scheduled to take place in Australia this year and Rishabh Pant still trying to create an identity for himself, Karthik feels that he can still make an impact if he is given an opportunity.

Dinesh Karthik confident of making a comeback

Dinesh Karthik knows the reason for his exclusion from India’s ODI team after a disappointing 2019 World Cup campaign but what he can’t understand is his omission from the truncated version of the game where he is still an incredible force to be reckoned with. However, he has no reason to doubt himself and added that he could make a comeback anytime soon.

“My record in T20s has been good. A big tournament like the World Cup did not go exactly as per the plan. I could understand the one day bit (being dropped from ODIs) but even now I would like to think that I stand a good chance in returning to the T20 side. I have done well even in the recent domestic games that I have played. I have no reason to doubt myself (that I can’t make another comeback),” Dinesh Karthik told PTI in an exclusive interview.

Among the three formats, he has done incredibly well in T20s, averaging 33.25 with a strike rate of 143.52. When asked if he was hurt after getting dropped, he said he was hurt while also adding that he has the burning desire to play for the Indian national cricket team.
