India wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has tendered an unconditional apology to BCCI for being seated in Trinabago Knight Riders’ (TKR) dressing room during the opening match of Caribbean Premier league a couple of days back.
As per a report in PTI, Karthik, in his submission, wrote that he sat there wearing TKR’s jersey on the request of Brendon McCullum, the head coach of TKR and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Dinesh Karthik also added that he will not be seated in the dressing room further – till the time he is in the country.
“I wish to tender unconditional apology for not seeking permission from BCCI prior to embarking on this visit. I wish to reiterate that I have neither participated in any TKR related activities nor played any role whatsoever for TKR,” Karthik wrote.
Since he has now apologised for his mistake, the board is unlikely to take any action against Karthik as he neither participated in the match nor did he do any promotional work for the franchise.
As per the rules, no Indian player is allowed to take part in any T20 league outside the country. This very rule sees the players take part in county cricket and Royal London one-day cup as well but not in the Vitality T20 Blast in England.
Karthik is the captain of IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders, the sister franchise of TKR. McCullum is head coach of both the teams. Since few of the members of the coaching staff of both the teams are same, Karthik would have visited to see the match in Trinidad on their request.
He will soon be returning to India to take part in Vijay Hazare Trophy where he will be leading Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, Trinbago Knight Riders have kicked off CPL with twin wins. Their first win came in the opening game, where they defeated St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. In the second match, the Kieron Pollard-led side defeated Jamaica Tallawahs by 22 runs. TKR will take on St Lucia Zouks in the fifth match of the tournament today.
Although the team has suffered a big blow as Dwayne Bravo has been ruled out of entire CPL 2019. Earlier, he was ruled out initial stage but the finger injury will see TKR’s regular captain miss the complete tournament.
