Recently there has been kind of a conflict. Eoin Morgan declined to explain of the fact that why he does not sing the national anthem in the line up before the England games. He also mentioned that it is “long story”.
Morgan was born in Dublin and has never sung the national anthem of England for six years. He also wishes to keep the reasons private to himself.
Now he is the captain of the national side and the focus stays upon him and he is seen not to sing the anthem.
Morgan said that it is pretty much simple. He has never sang the national anthem when playing for Ireland or England.
He also added that it does not make him less proud to be an English cricketer. He feels privileged to be a part of the team.
Morgan played 23 ODIs for Ireland before he made up his way to England where he made his debut on 2009.
Unlike international football matches, anthems are rarely played in cricket matches.
England team is a mix of culture with players belonging to varied cultures.
Morgan is quite a private man and it was no real surprise that he did not wish to talk about this matter any further. Angus Fraser, the director of Eoin Morgan said that he is quite like a mystery and he does not unveils himself to a considerable extent.
Morgan did not disclose any secret desires to play for England though. He said to the officials of Ireland Cricket that he did not wish to play for Ireland as Ireland does not play test cricket.
Morgan also said that he does not feel Ireland will play test cricket in future and thus has opted for such a decision.
Also, by playing for England he gets exposed to more of international cricket as England plays way much more International cricket than Ireland.
