Former Indian fast bowler Ajit Agarkar believes that India A coach Rahul Dravid’s feedback must have played a part in Prithvi Shaw’s selection in the Test team. Shaw has received his maiden Test call and Dravid who has observed him from close corners had a word with the national selectors.
The talented prodigy has impressed with his fine strokeplay in the recent past. Shaw scored more than 600 runs for India A side on the recent tour of England.
Prithvi Shaw has impressed with his batting skills.
The flamboyant right-hander also scored a fine century against South Africa A. Furthermore, Shaw also led Under-19 team to glory in the World Cup which was held in New Zealand earlier in the year.
Consequently, Shaw was rewarded with his maiden Test call in the Indian squad.
“If Rahul has given them the feedback, which I assume they would have sought, that’s all you would want to know. He is not going to promote him for his promise or age” Agarkar told Sportstar on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw has scored a truckload of runs in the domestic season. Shaw has scored 1418 runs in the 14 first-class matches for Mumbai. Thus, Shaw has shown the promise to be the future of the Indian cricket.
Ajit Agarkar believes even if Shaw doesn’t get a game in the last two Test matches, it would be a great opportunity for him to spend time with senior Indian players. Subsequently, Shaw can take a cue from experienced players.
“Even if he doesn’t get a game, just to be around the group and a happy change room will work wonders for him. I am sure this exposure will make him an even better batsman,” Ajit Agarkar said.
There is no doubt that Prithvi Shaw is the cynosure of all eyes since he has come on the big stage. The 18-year old will look to keep impressing with his batsmanship. The young lad is on the right path and will look to attain great heights in his career.
