India’s all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is in contention to replace his spin partner Ravichandran Ashwin in the final Test match against England. Ashwin had suffered a hip injury in the third Test match at Trent Bridge.
Thus, there were reports that he was not 100% fit for the Southampton – which Ravi Shastri didn’t agree to. In fact, Ashwin was not able to make any sort of impact in the fourth Test match. The Ageas Bowl track provided assistance to the spinners. However, India’s veteran off-spinner lacked the attacking instinct.
Ashwin bowled only 18% of his deliveries in the rough area and failed to hit the crater. Thus, the talisman could come up roses in the previous match. He scalped a solitary wicket in the second innings when a lot was expected from him.
On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja is yet to play his maiden match on the England tour. Jadeja has been out of the limited-overs side and also could not break into the Test playing XI.
Meanwhile, there are reports that Prithvi Shaw will replace KL Rahul in the final match. Therefore, the 18-year old prodigy batsman is in contention to make his debut. Furthermore, Hanuma Vihari is reported to replace Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
Consequently, some changes are expected in the Indian team final XI. The visitors will definitely like to end the tour on a high.
Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja has played 36 Test matches in which he has scored 1196 runs at an average of 29.17. The southpaw spinner has scalped 171 wickets thus far in his career with the best of seven for 48. Furthermore, Jadeja is a gun fielder.
The fifth Test match will take place at the Kennington Oval, London from 7th September.
