England vs India 2014: 1st Test: A Tail Enders' Fairytale ends in pale draw

It was a Tail Enders match of scoring runs on a dead pitch and only team that looked like winning at the start and losing towards end was India. After been in a good position almost till third day, suddenly India were in trouble on Day 5 but some good batting helped them escaping and Dhoni even didn’t tried to declare after been a position where he can’t lose and ended safely in shaking hands with another 15 overs left.

With help of Murali Vijay’s ton on Day one India were going safely with help of Pujara, Rahane contributions and the biggest was of Dhoni’s who put on a 150 run stand. Just after the day 2 lunch, India lost their plot as India were 9 down in no time and there began the fairy tales in the game with the last pair BhuviShami hanging in around almost near to 40 overs. They both put on 111 for last wicket helping India to score over 450.

England collapse similar to India after been in a great position till 3rd Lunch with help of fifties from Robson and Ballance, they were stuck down with a brilliant spell from Ishant and co as there were 7 down by Tea. But an attack innings from Broad helped to bring down the deficient 160 before Bhuvi sent him back along with Plunkett as they stared 9 down. But with Root on other end, Anderson played freely scoring shots as the score slowly kept on the move and they were leading too. In this process they broke the world record for tenth wicket partnership and almost took over 500 but Bhuvi picked his 5-fer ending Anderson’s resistance.

India in second innings looked much well but just before close of play lost two set batsmen wickets of Pujara and Vijay who scored fifties. On the final day morning brilliant bowling from the pacer ensure three quick wickets as they kept hopes alive before the all-rounders, Jadeja and Binny took away from them. Binny played freely but Jadeja took near to 40 balls to get off the mark. They both took Indian lead past 200. Later Binny along with Bhuvi put on a big partnership as the chances of England evaporated. Everyone expected a declaration from Dhoni at tea but he was happy to wait till the time get ended. Bhuvi scored his second fifty of the match and at end Cook who bowled, even scrapped a wicket of Ishant.

At the end on overall the sessions lead was 7.5 each which mean it was neck to neck. James Anderson was awarded man of the match but the Sky Team has received criticism from people over the MOM decision.
