England vs India 2018: 2nd Test Lord’s, Day 3 – Lunch Report

England ended the opening session of the third day of the second Test match with 89 runs on the board. However, the hosts have lost four wickets in the first session of the day’s play. But the home side trails by only 18 runs in response to 107 runs of India’s first innings score.

Meanwhile, India’s pace attack Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami didn’t hit the correct length in the first twenty minutes. However, both the right-handed fast bowlers were able to get their groove.

Mohammed Shami was able to trap Keaton Jennings in front of the wickets. Furthermore, Ishant Sharma got one to move away from the pitch to take Alastair Cook’s outside edge to Dinesh Karthik.

However, England skipper Joe Root and debutant Ollie Pope were able to get a good partnership of 43 runs. Pope showed good temperament in his maiden appearance at the International level as he scored a free-flowing 28.

On the other hand, Hardik Pandya has thus far done justice to his role of a third seamer when he was able to trap Ollie Pope on the pad in front of the wickets. On the other hand, Kuldeep Yadav didn’t look at his best.

Furthermore, Mohammed Shami was called again for a second burst. India’s pack leader didn’t disappoint as he was able to plumb Joe Root on the backfoot to give a fine finishing touch to the visitors. Therefore, Indian bowlers were able to do just enough to keep the tourists in the hunt.

Meanwhile, England trails only by 18 runs. However, India will not like to let the home side off the hook. Consequently, the visitors must continue to chip in with regular wickets.

Therefore, it is going to be a crucial upcoming session in the context of the game.

Brief Scores: India 107-10, Ravichandran Ashwin 29 (38)

James Anderson 5-20.

England 89-4, Ollie Pope 28 (38).

Mohammed Shami 2-27
