England vs India: 2nd ODI Preview

Editor Sportzwiki / 27 August 2014

After a humiliation for India in the five match Test series, the heavens opened up and marred the beginning of the 1st ODI at Bristol. The match was abandoned due to rain without a ball being bowled. Now the Natwest series bandwagon moves to the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, where the 2nd England vs India ODI is scheduled to take place on 27 August.

Weather Report and Ind vs Eng 2nd odi Date:

The India v England 2nd ODI looks like it would be a repeat of the first match as the meteorological department has predicted thunderstorms at the venue. The temperature is expected to be 19o Celsius and the humidity will be 86%.

Pitch Report:

The wicket at the Sophia Gardens for 2nd is known to assist the batsmen. The last time when ODI matches took place here, it was the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy and the batsmen enjoyed the conditions more in this venue when compared to Edgbaston and Oval.

The people in England along with the English media are waiting on their toes to see Nottinghamshire’s Alex Hales coming out to bat in England Colours. Hales has been in the form of his life as he had scored 3 centuries in his last three matches apart from one for England Lions. The rest of the England’s playing XI led by Alastair Cook looks well settled. Their only dilemma will be whether to include giant killer Moeen Ali or to go with Ben stokes as an extra pace option. Bowling attack spearheaded by James Anderson looks threatening with Chris Jorden, Harry Gurney and Steve Finn accompanying him. James Tredwell will be the lone spinner in the playing XI as India is known to have some trouble in facing the pacers. Joe Root, Eion Morgan and Jos Buttler completes the strong middle order for England.

On the other hand, the Indian cricket team will look for redemption and regain some pride before flying back home. Suresh Raina ad Umesh Yadav will be back in the side and the only decision that the team management has to make is whether to go in with Ajinkya Rahane or play Ambati Rayudu at number 4. Rahane was outstanding when compared to the other batsmen in Tests but in ODI’s he hasn’t proved his worth yet. On the other hand, Rayudu has performed consistently in the ODI’s and also played a crucial knock in India’s victory over Middlesex. Virat Kohli striking form will be a good news for the Indians ahead of the ODI Series.

India Playing XI:  Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Ajinkya Rahane, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohit Sharma, Mohammad Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

India have played three matches at Cardiff and has won 2 and lost 1.

England has played 7 matches and have won 3. The remaining 4 matches failed to produce a result.

Both the teams have faced only once in 2011 and England emerged victorious by 6 wickets in that clash.

Rahul Dravid played his last ODI for India at this ground.
