Had everything went right, we would have seen Unmukt Chand opening the innings for Indian National Cricket Team, at least in shorter formats of the game. However, things didn’t fell in place for the youngster, who found it tough to get a place even in his state team. In the end, he moved his base from Delhi to Uttarakhand for a better future.
He made his debut in 2010 against Gujarat at 17 with the cricket fraternity in the Capital raving about his talent. He made a 35 in his first match for Delhi but went on to play another 59, the last one coming in 2017 at Alur against Karnataka.

Unmukt made a huge impact in 2012 when he led India to a title-triumph in the World Cup (under-19) with sensational innings of 111 against host Australia in the final. Former players hailed Unmukt’s performance and he was singled out as a player with a great future.
Gradually, everything changed for him. However, in a new turn, he will lead Uttarakhand in the Ranji Trophy this season. The 26-year-old stroke player secured his No Objection Certificate from his parent state, Delhi, on Saturday to begin a career that was rocked in the last couple of years.
Emotional moment to leave Delhi – Unmukt Chand
In a chat with Timesnownews.com, Unmukt talked about his move to the new team, change in mindset as a professional and the reasons to make the switch. The flamboyant batsman quoted that it was an emotional moment for him to leave the team but took a decision for a better future.
”Of course, it’s an emotional moment for me to leave Delhi. I have always been a Delhi boy. But these things are not planned. Things happen. I have enjoyed playing cricket in Delhi… all my age groups.”
”I have learnt over the years. The Ranji Trophy experience has been superb under all the seniors – Viru bhai (Virender Sehwag), Gauti bhai (Gautam Gambhir), Virat (Kohli), Shikhar (Dhawan), Ishant (Sharma). So it has been tremendous. I cherish every moment I spent with Delhi but last two-years have not been very kind. But that’s ok. Few hard experiences don’t make the whole experience a bad one.”

”Last 2-3 years have not been good for me in Delhi. Yes, I have had lots of comebacks in last 2-3 years….you know I was getting dropped time and again. So every match felt like a comeback match for me. It was a great experience playing for Delhi but Uttarakhand is another challenge. I have a connection with Uttarakhand…my roots are in Uttaranchal. So it feels like home. It’s good I have been able to acclimatise here…really enjoying the environment. Hopefully, can do a better job with Uttarakhand.”
