We executed our plans really well in the series - MS Dhoni

The formalities in the three-match ODI series between India and Zimbabwe at Harare were wrapped up as the visitors demolished the hosts by 10 wickets. By winning the third ODI in such a demolishing manner, the men in blue whitewashed Zimbabwe 3-0 and this was India’s third whitewash off Zimbabwe since 2013.

Once again it was the bowlers who made a complete mess of the Zimbabweans as the host batsmen were bowled out for a paltry 123 in 42.2 overs. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah finished off the series with 9 wickets in 3 games and grabbed yet another 4 wicket haul in the third ODI. Barring pacer Barinder Sran, all bowlers were among the wickets. The Indian openers found no difficulty in chasing the target as KL Rahul notched up another half century and debutant Faiz Fazal made a fine fifty on debut.

Post grabbing the series, Indian skipper MS Dhoni said that the team executed all plans quite efficiently. “We executed our plans really well in the series,” said Dhoni. “You always plan against the opposition, but it is executing, that is important. The fast bowlers and spinners took wickets at crucial times. I don’t mind winning games easily; few more batters could have got opportunities but the guys who got the opportunities performed really well. After a long time, I am getting a break. I will spend some time with the family and take time off cricket.”

Opener KL Rahul was named the Man of the Series and he was pleased with his efforts. “I always knew that I had the skill to do well in all the formats. I got an opportunity with RCB and by doing well I got a call up for the Indian squad. A lot of credit to the bowlers on how they have bowled. They allowed me to go out there and take time before playing my natural game. Once I go there and see the red ball swinging around; I will see how difficult it is (talking about the West Indies tour). The T20 series is the next thing on my mind,” said Rahul.
