Suryakumar Yadav’s poor run in ODIs further extended on Sunday (March 17) as he was dismissed for a golden duck for the second game in a row in the ongoing series against Australia.

While the right-handed batsman has done absolutely nothing wrong in T20Is since making his debut a couple of years ago, the same cannot be said about his performance in the 50-over format. He started well in ODIs, hitting two fifties and 4 30-plus scores in his first 6 innings.

But things have only going downhill since then. In his last 14 innings, he has not scored a single fifty and has crossed the 30-run mark just twice. With Shreyas Iyer sidelined for the series owing to a back issue, the ongoing series was a big opportunity for the right-handed batsman to make a strong case for himself for this year’s World Cup.

Suryakumar Yadav trolled for twin failures:

However, Suryakumar Yadav has squandered the opportunity by registering two consecutive golden ducks. In both the ODIs, left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc sent him back. In both the ODIs, the Australia pace spearhead pinned him in front of the wicket.

With the ongoing year being a World Cup year, the string of failures could make the batsman lose his place in the ODI team. With the likes of Deepak Hooda, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan waiting for a chance and Shreyas Iyer already ahead of him in the pecking order, Suryakumar Yadav is fast running out of time to impress in the 50-over format.

And as he failed for the second game in a row in the ongoing series, the fans took to Twitter to slam him. While some called him a minnow basher, some said that he does not deserve a place in ODI team based on his T20I performances.

Here are some of the reactions:
