Rain could not halt the cricket lovers to gather in more numbers as the first T20I match against Sri Lanka was abandoned due to wet fields. The rain stopped after an hour of the toss, but due to an improper covering on the pitch, the match could not start.

The Guwahati ground didn’t get too many international matches. It hosted two international games before this T20I -one against Australia and another one against West Indies. While India lost badly the first one, but in the later one India registered the victory after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma chased down the target easily. Albeit fans were disappointed as they could not see their favourites again at the Barsapara Cricket Ground.

Wet patches halted the first T20I match at Guwahati

Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bowl in Team India’s first international match of 2020. But chances of the game decreased as heavy rain lashed the stadium soon after the toss. The pitch was covered immediately, but a loophole halted the match to start. The rain stopped after an hour, but wet patches were formed at about a couple of meters from the stumps. Hairdryer and Vaccum cleaner was used, but it could not help to match the start.

Meanwhile, the fans kept themselves busy by singing and dancing. The Spectators created a magical moment when the Indian skipper Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Shikhar Dhawan entered the field. They started singing the song Vande Mataram with their mobile flashlights turned on.

But the fans had to go back home with disappointed faces after umpire did the last inspection of the pitch. The match was called off due to wet patches in the pitch. With this, players will also be disappointed for whom every game is crucial to make their place permanent. Now, both the teams will move to Indore to play the second T20I match against Sri Lanka.
