Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI

‘Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI’ – In 1983, India had won the World Cup by scoring just 183 against the mighty West Indies. Who would have imagined at that time that there would come a time when even a single player would score more than that. Over the last one decade, things has changed drastically in this game. New rules, fielding restrictions, powerplays and the newer forms of bats have tilted the game slightly in the batsmen’s favour. Not surprisingly, most of the Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI have come in this decade.

Fastest 15 centuries in ODI:

The elite list contains the names of some of the biggest names from the current lot as well as past lot. So here we take a look at players who made it to the list of Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI:

15. Moeen Ali:

Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI

At number 15 in the list of Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI is England all-rounder Moeen Ali for his 52-ball hundred against West Indies in 2017.

It was one of the most brutal and breathtaking batting displays in international cricket as Moeen blew away West Indies. At one stage of his innings, he hit a scarcely-believable eight sixes in the space of 14 balls and moved from 50 to 100 off only 12 balls. As a result of Moeen’s knock, England recovered from 217 for 6 to post a massive 369 for 9. In reply, West Indies were all out for 245.

14.  Shahid Afridi:

Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI

At number 14 in the list of Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI is former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi. The all-rounder is known for his hard-hitting abilities, so do not be surprised if his names pop out again in this elite list. He has made it to this position for his 53-ball ton against Bangladesh in 2010 Asia Cup.

Pakistan were in a precarious position when Afridi came out to bat. They were 176 for 4 and another wicket would have firmly put Bangladesh on top. However, the pressure dissipated in a blink of an eye as Afridi launched a stunning counterattack. By the time he got out in the 47th over, the scoreboard was reading 347. Pakistan eventually scored 385 for 7 before restricting Bangladesh to 246 for 5.

13. AB de Villiers:

At number 13 in the list of Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI is former South Africa skipper AB de Villiers. One of the finest hitters of the cricket ball of all time, de Villiers was nothing less than a terror for bowlers in international cricket.

He has made it to this position for his 52 balls hundred against West Indies in 2015 World Cup. After Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis and Rilee Rossouw set the tone by scoring a half-century each, de Villiers put the icing on the cake. He scored 162 not out off just 66 balls with the help of 17 fours and 8 sixes. During the process, he smashed the fastest 150 in ODIs as South Africa scored 408 for 5.  In reply, West Indies were all out for just 151.

12. Virat Kohli:

Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI

At number 12 in the list of Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI is India skipper Virat Kohli. Australia must have thought they had the game in their pocket when they scored a massive 359 for 5 in the second ODI during the tour of India in 2013. However, Kohli had some other plans as he along with Rohit Sharma tormented the visitors. India chased down the total inside 44 overs.

Both the players managed to score a century but Virat entered the record books for reaching the milestone off just 52 balls. In the process, he became the fastest Indian to score a century in ODIs.

11. Glenn Maxwell:

At number 11 in the list of Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI is Australia’s Glenn Maxwell for his 51-ball century against Sri Lanka in 2015 World Cup.

After the fifties from Steve Smith and Michael Clarke laid the foundation, Maxwell capitalised on it by smashing the fastest ton by an Australian in ODIs. He scored 102 off 53 balls as Australia posted 379. In reply, Sri Lanka were all out for 312.

10. Kevin O’Brien:

Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI

At number 10 in the list of Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI is Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien for his 50-ball century against England in 2011 World Cup. It was a century that would be remembered for ages. Ireland looked well out of the contest when England finished their innings on 327 for 8.

In reply, Ireland were reeling at 111 for 5 before O’Brien took charge. He and Alex Cusack added 162 runs for the sixth wicket to revive Ireland’s hopes. O’Brien went on to smash a 50-ball ton before being run out for 113 off 63 balls. His dismissal, however, did not hurt Ireland as they chased down the total with 5 balls remaining.

9. Sanath Jayasuriya:

Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI

At number 9 in the list of Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI is former Sri Lanka skipper Sanath Jayasuriya. He was a menace for bowlers in his playing days. The fact that he is in this list for a knock that came before this millennium pretty much proves how dangerous he was.

Jayasuriya is occupying this position for his 48-ball century against Pakistan in 1996 Singer Cup. As a result of his knock, Sri Lanka scored a mammoth 349 for 9. In reply, Pakistan gave a spirited fight but could manage 315.

8. Jos Buttler:

At number 8 in the list of Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI is England’s, Jos Buttler. The poster-boy of England’s ODI revolution, Buttler holds the record of fastest-ever ODI century by an England player. He achieved the record for his 46-ball ton against Pakistan in 2016 in Dubai. Coming in at number four, Buttler blasted 116 not out off just 52 balls, helping England post 355 for 5.

6. Shahid Afridi:

Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI

Opening the innings, he slammed 102 off just 46 balls with the help of 10 fours and 9 sixes.

5. Brian Lara:

Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI

At number five in the list of Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI is West Indies great Brian Lara for his 45-ball century against Bangladesh in 1999. Opening the innings, Lara slammed 117 off just  62 balls and hit a total of 18 fours and four sixes to blow away Bangladesh attack.

The West Indies scored 314 and won the game by 109 runs, as Lara’s innings proved to be the difference.

4. Mark Boucher:

Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI

At number four in the list of Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI is former South Africa keeper-batsman Mark Boucher for his 44-ball ton against Zimbabwe in 2006. It was a great display of minnow bashing as Boucher tore away the Zimbabwe attack and etched his name into the record books with his solitary ODI century.

He came in to bat at the number and made the most of his promotion by slamming a whirlwind century. He ended up scoring 147 runs in 68 balls and hit 8 fours and 10 sixes.

3. Shahid Afridi:

Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI

At number three in the list of Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI is Shahid Afridi. This is the third time, the Pakistan star has made it to the list and the latest one tops them all.

In the same tournament in Singapore in which Sanath Jayasuriya slammed a 48-ball ton against the Pakistani attack, Afridi returned the favour a few days later by scoring a 37-ball century. He hit six fours and 11 sixes to become the fastest centurion in ODIs. The record stood for an incredible 18 years before being broken by Corey Anderson.

2. Corey Anderson:

Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI

At number two in the list of Fastest 15 Centuries in ODI is Corey Anderson for his 36-ball ton against West Indies in 2014. The century helped him break Afridi’s long-standing record of fastest ODI century. In the same game, his teammate Jesse Ryder had slammed a 46-ball century.

As a result,  New Zealand posted an incredible 283 for 4 in a game that was reduced to 21 overs a side. In reply, the West Indies could only manage to score 124 for 5.
