The comeback man KL Rahul is down with fever and has not travelled with the team to Galle. The right-handed Indian opener has stayed back in Colombo. Team India would want their main batsman to recover back in time as if deemed unfit for the game or series, team India does not have any backup opener to replace him. Murali Vijay has already been ruled out of the series and in that case, the selectors have to look back towards Gautam Gambhir.

KL Rahul has already indicated that he is still nervous about his fitness and fever to him has added to the vows of the team. Abhinav Mukund and Shikhar Dhawan will open the innings in case KL Rahul misses the game. He had already missed few games in the long home season due to various injuries and then went onto miss IPL 10 due to a shoulder injury. An injury to him opened ways for Shikhar Dhawan for a place in the Indian team for the Champions Trophy 2017 and here as well, same can be the case.
