The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and National Bureau (NAB) of Pakistan are investigating the financial irregularities and misappropriation of funds in projects within the country’s supreme cricket governing body the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Sportzwiki has learnt that the investigative agencies has summoned few board officials, contractors and looked out for the files to dig out further details.
Earlier in this month, Dawn has reported that FIA has detected misappropriation of funds in four projects of the PCB.
The investigation has been initiated after finding the financial irregularities in the construction of Multan Cricket Academy (MCA), Garhi Khuda Baksh Stadium and the illegal arrangements being made while building the stands at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
It further stated that the PCB has made the excessive payment of 5.6 million to the contractor while violating the rules for two separate projects including the cricket academy.
The Octogenarian PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan believes that the issue with the FIA and NAB is a simple one while defending board’s decision.
“The NAB issue is quite straightforward and will be solved soon,” Shaharyar said, quoted as saying by Express Tribune.
As the Board of Governance meeting is going to be held in Karachi on Friday, the concerned matters are expected to get discussed as the PCB stand firm over the contracts being awarded to the contractors through the public tender process for the cricket board’s projects.
