Five domestic players who missed team India bus due to fitness!

Cricket is a sport in which fitness is traditionally not thought of as very important. The importance of fitness in any sport cannot be underlined. The fitter you are the better you’ll play. But Cricket is one such sport which tests your game skills, mental strength, stamina and physical endurance as well .

Now, The game has gone through major changes and the physical demands made on a cricketer’s body have also increased dramatically. Depending on the version of the game being played and the role of the player in the team, the importance of fitness will vary. The fitness requirements of a fast bowler will be greater and also different than that of an opening batsman, and one-day cricket will be more demanding than a test match.

We have seen few players who missed an opertunity to play for India due to lack of fittness. Here we see five Indian cricketers who missed the team bus because of fitness.

1) Manoj Tiwary

Manoj Tiwary is the most unfortunate man in Indian cricket. An aggressive batsman from Bengal, he impressed everybody with 796 runs at 99.50 in the 2006-07 Ranji Trophy, in the process breaking Bengal records and forcing his way into the India touring party for Bangladesh.

On match eve in Mirpur, everybody knew he was going to debut but he injured his shoulder severely during fielding practice.

When the debut finally arrived in early 2008, he was jetlagged and in Brisbane, completely out of league against a searing Brett Lee. He had to wait for more than three years for his next international match, and was asked to open the innings because he was replacing an under-performing opener in a second-string side. Another failure followed.

He was handed another chance to stake his claim for a permanent place in the national side during India’s injury-ridden 2011 tour of England, when he was called up to replace Rohit Sharma in the ODI squad. He made his maiden ODI century against West Indies in Chennai later that year, but was mysteriously benched for months.

2) Vikram Raj Vir Singh.

How many of you have heard his name? He hasn’t played a match for India in like almost 9 years. Here’s Vikram Raj Vir Singh for you , aka V.R.V. Singh!  At a time, when Indian pace bowling was flooded with medium pacers, who could barely notch over 130, VRV could easily bowl well over 140kmph.

Owing to this, VRV made his International Debut against England as part of the Indian Board President’s XI team in the England’s tour of India in the 2006 season and made his ODI debut for India later in the series. He has since been left out of the ODI team. He made his Test debut against the West Indies in West Indies. He has also played two tests against South Africa. He hasn’t been seen after that in the Indian Jersey.

Injuries took a toll on VRV Singh’s body and he could not play a domestic match for Punjab from 2008 to 2012, although he played few IPL matches for Kings XI Punjab. He had to go through complete process from Nets to Clubs to State team again.

3) Manish pandey

20074

Manish pandey is a cricketer who is best suited to no.3 and no.4 position because of his style of batting, which is more of an attack-defense-attack.

He should have been selected during that time because he was scoring heavily. But yes an injury ruined his next season.

Had a good Ranji trophy in 2013-14 and helped Karnataka win the ranaji trophy. Had a good IPL. But an average 2014-15 season( though ended up with treble). Finished the season with a hundred in Irani trophy against ROI. He still averages more than 50 in first class cricket. Yes it would have been fantastic if he had already represented India.

4) KL Rahul

KL Rahul missed India’s lone Test in Bangladesh due to an ailment. Rahul had an illness could not join the squad.

Rahul’s illness gave his Sunrisers Hyderabad team-mate Dhawan a shot at comeback after being dropped for the Sydney Test.

After returning from Australia, Rahul had racked up 838 runs from five Ranji Trophy matches at an average of 93.11, including a triple-century against Uttar Pradesh and 188 against Tamil Nadu in the final.

5. Subramaniam Badrinath

On his ODI debut Badrinath, who replaced Sachin Tendulkar, led India to a win in a close game against Sri Lanka in 2008. In 2010, he made his Test debut after scoring truckloads of runs in the domestic circuit. He made a half-century on debut against the South African attack in Nagpur. He was man of the match on his T20 International debut against West Indies in 2011. Despite these promising performances, Badrinath managed to play only 7 ODIs, 2 Tests and one T20 International for India.

In 2014, Badrinath saw how life can be tough when no franchise picked him in the IPL auction. He was suffering of an injury also. He was Chennai Super Kings’ mainstay in the batting line-up for six seasons and hardly missed a match.
