Five England players of Pakistan origin

A few days back the Pakistan bowler Junaid Khan who was not picked for the ODI series against England said that he will think over the decision to play for England as he had the opportunity to play for that country in the year 2013. He is yet to take a final call on that matter but if that happens then it will not be the first time that any player of Pakistan roots playing for England. Earlier many players of Pakistan roots have played for England.

So today we have a look at five players of Pakistan roots who went on to play for England:

Moeen Ali – He is probably the most successful player of Pakistan origin playing for England. An all rounder by profession, Moeen Ali burst to seen when he was the second highest wicket-taker on India tour to England in the year 2014. He grabbed 19 wickets in the series. From then he became the need of the team because he used to contribute both with the bat and bowl. He played a crucial role in 2015 ashes as he scored 293 runs and also grabbed 12 wickets. His sudden rise in this field due to his brilliant performance is the reason why one can say him the best player of Pakistan root to play for England.

Adil Rashid – Adil Rashid made his ODI debut way back in 2009 but was dropped after this contest. He was recalled last year and from then he has been a permanent member of the team. He is the currently the only leg spinner in the team. Rashid got a chance to make his Test debut last year against Pakistan, he went wicketless in first innings but bounced back with a fifer in the second innings. He is a part of Test team but gets very few opportunities due to the presence of Moeen Ali in the team as he can contribute both with bat and ball.

Owais Shah – The former England batsman Owais Shah has his roots in Karachi Pakistan. The 37-year-old right-handed batsmen made his debut in the year 2001 in an ODI against Australia. He also played 6 Test matches for England from the year 2006-2009. Shah has retired from the game now but is still active in domestic cricket.

Sajid Mahmood – The tall lanky fast bowler though was born in U.K. but he has his grassroots in Pakistan. The right arm fast bowler had a short career of 8 Test matches, 26 ODI’s and 4 T20I’s. Mahmood could never really cement his place in the team and he ended having a short international career. He retired from domestic cricket in 2014.

Kabir Ali – Kabir Ali is a Pakistan decent player who played 1 Test and 14 ODIs. Injuries were the main reason behind his short career. Injuries played a great role in cutting short his career and snatched many chances from his hands. In 2008 he had a last chance to make a comeback to the team but there too an injury forced him to leave the tour. Post that series, he never got another chance to play for the country.
