Five-Layer Security, Paramilitary Forces To Guard During PSL Final

Finally, the day has arrived for which the PSL Chairman Najam Sethi fought tooth and nail. The day has arrived when Pakistan will witness cricket after a period of almost two years and it’s here, the final of Pakistan Super League (PSL) to be played in Lahore.

To ensure the safety of players, the security has been beefed up both in and out of the stadium. A five-layer security is in place to safeguard the players and the playing area. A total of 10,000 security men have been deployed in the state. Pakistan paramilitary forces namely Pak Rangers have also been deployed to keep a check on the game.

A 25-bed hospital has also been set up just adjacent to the Gaddafi stadium in case of any emergency.

The spectators will have to undergo a three-layer security check before entering the playing area. Police will be patrolling the playing and the nearby area during the game and no public transport will be allowed withing 1 km range of the Gaddafi stadium.

Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Mister Nawaz Sharif and Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa will also witness the event, which itself makes the playing area a high-security alert zone.

The players will be taken to the stadium directly from the hotel in a bulletproof bus. Mock drills regarding carrying of players from the airport to hotel to the stadium have already been conducted, to ensure the future proceedings safely.

It’ll be the first time after a period of almost two years when the country will host a big event with the last one being the limited-overs series against Zimbabwe in 2015. The visiting team was provided with a Z+ security on their tour with vehicles with red siren over the top, guarding the team 24/7 but still the tour was marred by controversy as a suicidal bomb blast took place where two security personnel were killed outside Gadaffi stadium.

Looking at the security arrangements, it seems like the state police and the national security agencies have made every possible effort to conduct the game safely and if everything goes as per the plan then it can also glow hopes of hosting international cricket in Pakistan.
