Five players who may never come back to the Indian team

Being dumped from the national team is a harsh reality to swallow as sometimes it takes ages to stage a comeback in the national team. Performance pressure and high expectations add to the mental pressure which finally results in poor performances and at last, a player finally loses hope to get back in the national team. The story seems to be quite close as it is the story of Indian cricket which has contributed a number of star players to the cricket fraternity. But sometimes the stars as well find it difficult to stage a comeback after being dropped due to factor discussed above. Also, with increase in competition from lesser known domestic players and age catching up the star players find it difficult to make the comeback.

In Indian cricket, there have been many great players who earned laurels for our country but at some point of time got dropped and now may never stage a comeback in the national team.

Today, we have a look at the 5 players whose chances of staging a comeback in the national team are slim.

Gautam Gambhir – Once he used to be the regular opener for the Indian team and him along with Virender Sehwag used to teach bowlers a lesson in their own style. The star player who came up from the ranks of under 19 cricket served the nation successfully for almost ten years in which he went onto pay more than 50 Test matches and 147 one-day matches. He along with Virender Sehwag performed their responsibility to lay a strong foundation so that the middle order can capitalise on that on many occasions, but suddenly in the year 2012 his form declined and he saw himself being dropped the next year due to continued failures. Though he made a comeback in 2014 for the England tour but could not do anything special there as he just 25 runs in four innings he played. It was seen that he was shivering while batting and in the end he got buried under the pressure and failed. Now with likes of Karun Nair and KL Rahul coming up with consistent performances, there is a bleak chance of Gambhir coming back to the Indian team and we may also see him announcing retirement in nearby future.

Pragyan Ojha set to play 2016/17 county season

Pragyan Ojha – One of the unluckiest guy in the Indian cricket, he recorded a match figures of 10/89 in the last historic test match he played but this proved to be his last appearance in international cricket as he failed to get a place in playing XI against New Zealand and was subsequently dropped. Also with likes of Amit Mishra, Harbhajan Singh and Ravindra Jadeja making comeback to the team, it made it more difficult for Ojha. Also, the controversy over his bowling action and him being going unsold in this year’s IPL auction further added to his woes. Now it looks like he may never make a comeback in the national team.

Irfan Pathan – Inconsistent performances and injuries were the main reason behind Irfan being absent from the national duty during the best phase of his career. Irfan could have been the permanent all-rounder that Indian team was looking for at that time but he could only survive in 29 test matches and 120 ODI’s. A player who made his debut at the age of 19, it was expected that he may serve country for 15-20 years but due regular hiccups in his performances he could not stretch his career. Still he hopes to make a comeback in the national team but with new generation of players cropping up and along with the number of injuries he is suffering from, he may never stage a comeback in the Indian team.

vinay kumar

R. Vinay Kumar – The 32 years old R. Vinay Kumar made his debut for Indian team at the age of 26 which was quite an unusual thing in Indian cricket then and even now. The Karnataka captain made only 31 ODI appearances and just one test appearance. M.S. Dhoni included him in the playing X1 of the test match against Australia and handed over him his test debut but he disappointed as he was struggling for pace on a pitch which was meant for pacers only. Now, even after consistent performances in domestic cricket, he has not been able to make a comeback in test team.

In the final match of home series against Australia in November 2013, he recorded match figures of 1/102 in a One day match which was obvious reason of him being axed from the national squad. He is still fighting it out for a comeback in Indian team but neither selectors nor the captain is interested in selecting him and it looks like he will end his career playing for Karnataka only.

Shane Warne

Munaf Patel – India’s tour of England in 2011 ended the careers of many, Munaf was one of them who played his last international match there. The uncelebrated hero of 2011 world cup, Munaf Patel’s career was on right track but a deviation in his form cost him and ended his international career. For the second consecutive year, Munaf went unsold in the IPL auction which was a blow to him. His declining form in domestic cricket adds to his woes and now it seems that even he has lost a hope to make a comeback in the team. So it can be said that he is also one of the players who may never make a comeback in the Indian team.
