Flashback: A look at the highest wicket-takers in IPL 2017

For the Sunrisers Hyderabad, since the 2016 edition, it was David Warner who excelled with the bat and so did Bhuvneshwar Kumar with the ball. The two have been quintessential in Hyderabad’s campaign in the last couple of editions of IPL.
There were rumours within the IPL fraternity to rest the Purple Cap to Bhuvi permanently at one point in time. The pacer topped the list of highest wicket-takers in two consecutive seasons, i.e., 2016 and 2017.
Much like Warner, Bhuvi turned out to be a different bowler since the Sunrisers acquired him. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was always renowned for his classical seam bowling.
However, during his tenure in Hyderabad, Bhuvi added an extra yard of pace, perfected the yorker and developed the deceiving knuckleball.
His form in IPL transcended into the Indian side, and gradually, Bhuvneshwar Kumar became the best death bowler in the sport. The UP seamer clinched 26 wickets in 14 matches at a ridiculous economy of 7.05.
Bhuvi struck a wicket every alternate overs during the 2017 edition. Saurashtra’s Jaydev Unadkat also made giant strides of progress during the tournament. He bettered Bhuvi’s incredible strike rate, average and economy.
Unadkat ended up with 24 wickets even after playing two games less than Bhuvi. The two Indian International picked up a five-wicket haul each during the tournament.
Jasprit Bumrah in his 16 matches ended up with a tally of 20 wickets. He was closely followed by his Mumbai Indian teammate Mitchell McClenaghan who scalped 19 wickets in the same number of games.
The season of 2017 will also be looked at the watershed moment of Rashid Khan’s franchise league career as he ended up with 17 wickets. His tally, amongst spinners, was only bettered by Imran Tahir who bagged 18 wickets in the league.
