In a sad turn of events, Barcelona footballer Andres Iniesta and his wife Anna Ortiz have lost their unborn child in a miscarriage on Friday evening.

Iniesta decided to take some time out of the game to get over this massive personal disappointment as he opted out of the league encounter against Real Valladolid due to ‘personal resons’, Barcelona‘s official site confirmed.

@barcastuff, a twitter handle which circulates Barcelona team news and club-related news, tweeted about the unfortunate incident ‘Afellay yesterday evening replaced Iniesta in the squad for today’s match because Iniesta’s wife Anna had a miscarriage. #rip [ser]’

Iniesta’s absence was crucial as Barcelona went down 1-0 to Real Valladolid as Fausto Rossi‘s solitery goal sealed Barcelona’s fate.

Barcelona delivered one of their worst ever performances of the season as Gerardo Martino’s side went down to a relegation-threatened team that hadn’t won since January.

Iniesta had been dating Anna since 2008 and on 3 April 2011 she gave birth to their daughter Valeria. The couple tied the knot on 8 July 2012 and had announced on 27 October 2013 that they were expecting their second child, a baby boy this time.

But complications in pregnancy resulted in the unfortunate miscarriage.

SPORTZWIKI wishes Andres and Anna the best for the future with the hope they recover from their present situation.
